Yes, it's been awhile since I've done a "fashion" post. But I love, love, love red carpets. It's the one time I feel good about judging other people by what they wore, terrible right? Well I was pleasantly surprised. I love it when celebs take chances, and go out of their comfert zone, whether it's shocking, or something demure and elegant on someone who you would not expect. Hey sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.

I had just came to a sad, scary, and kind of disgusting realization the other day. I had been wearing the same pair of sweatpants for 2 weeks straight. (Not at work unfortunately, but if I could, you better believe I would) Wait that's not all, this gets better, waaaaayyy better... my personal hygiene has been seriously lacking, I spent Sunday afternoon watching a 4 hour COPS marathon, and I don't even know if I still remember even how to open a tube of mascara. OK, maybe I'm being over dramatic...

When I first started this blog it was suppose to be a fashion blog, (and it still kind of is) but I quickly realized there were over 20,000 other fashion blogs out there that were way, way better than mine... I felt I couldn't compete, or was not good enough and came up with the usual mindset of, I suck. So I contemplated just giving up and going my familiar route when things don't seem easy. Quit.

Then I got a comment on one of my posts... I know it doesn't seem like much, but I was estactic. Someone actually out there took time to read my post and had a positive comment. And it was a post where I was just being me, something that had made me laugh and thought I should share. And it wasn't my Mom. From then on I just said "fuck it" and started writing and posting what interested me. Whether it be amazing couture collections from the runways in Paris, shitty tattoos, my favorite movies, super cool chicks that catch my attention, or whatever came to mind that day. It was me being, well me. Then I started to get followers,which I was amazed at. People actually liked coming to my blog and reading my ramblings.... Wow. I realized I needed to give myself more credit. I was good enough. And why did I ever think I wasn't? And who exactly am I trying to impress anyways? Why I need to constantly compare myself to others? Why do I feel the need to compete? The answer is simple. I don't need to do any of those things.

Putting yourself out there whether it be pictures of you or a blog for the world or cyber world to see is a big deal, well at least for me it is. When you're vulnerable and open your thoughts and feelings your subjected to rejection, judgment, negative comments, and people "GASP" not liking you. Which use to be, sadly, my biggest fears. Yes you never know who is on the other end of that keyboard (I just saw that documentary Catfish... freaky). BUT.. you are also putting yourself out there for positive comments, new friends, ideas, and an endless array of cool shit that is now open to you that you have never experienced before, or experiencing again. You're taking a chance.

People may not like what I say or what I post, or my blog for that matter. And that's fine. That that should be my least of my worries is negativity. What a fucking boring world it would be if we were all the same, think about it. But how much more boring would it be if you stifled yourself and held yourself back because of fear? Or in our everyday life, when we start a new job, or open our heart to someone special and it doesn't work, or you were rejected. No one has to accept you, you have to accept yourself. And part of accepting yourself is being kind to yourself in every aspect. Whether it's not doing something that you know will make you sad, or doing something that you know will make you smile without regrets.

Oftentimes I find myself back in those sweatpants (like last week) over failure or something that didn't go as planned. That's OK. That doesn't matter, that's how I was feeling and we are ALL entitled to days like that. What matters is that we find that something, that thing that makes us want to take those nasty, yet so comfortable things off.
What makes me want to take off those sweatpants and peel myself off the couch? What makes me smile? What is it? It's quite simple. Being myself.

INSTEAD OF SAYING "OH GOD, I FAILED" INSTEAD I SAY "AT LEAST I TRIED.."

I'm not one to give advice or preach... but I can speak from my own experiences. Today is today and tomorrow is something new.
So I decided to take those funky sweatpants off, but them in the laundry pile and put on my black skinny jeans with leopard print 4" high heels (I'm 5'10). Let people ask me to get things off the high shelf for them at the grocery store. Go ahead.

So for my (56) followers. Thank you. A simple smile, comment or kind gesture really does make a persons day. It's the simple things in life that make me happy, really, sincerely and honestly. I am not trying to write a "self help book" (as that would be the worlds shortest book), because everyone has their own things that make them smile, or want to take those sweatpants off. It's just finding it and realizing that what makes you happy isn't that far out of reach and its probably right in front of you.

New Year, New Me! ????

I loathe New Years Resolutions. Period end of sentence. When people ask me I never know what to say... "To clean my cats litter box more than once a week?" "Be a better person"? I don't know.. But seriously, not trying to be negative but here are some reason's why I have so much distaste for that phrase.

1. Too much hype
My main resolution for the past few years is to give up smoking ENTIRELY. Hey that seems like a good one right? But 3 minutes after that ball drops into the New Year I find myself shivering outside some bar trying to light a smoke.

2. It rarely works. (I'm being truthful)
How many people have New Years resolutions? A lot of them, and by mid-June ask them what their New Year's resolution is and most of them will have forgotten, or wink and say "Next Year, yeah next year for sure, this year was just too much." Which brings me to my next point.

3. Too Much PRESSURE!!!
I think we often put unexpected realizations upon ourselves. For instance, a friend of mines New Years resolution last year was to give up chocolate. Really? For a whole year???? For 12 months??? For 52 Weeks??? No chocolate for 365 days???? Wow, that's some goddamn willpower. Did she make it? Well, according to her, she said she did and she was proud of herself. But then again I also think she's full of shit, as I caught her a few weeks ago eating a Hersey's chocolate bar while she waited in her car outside my house. Despite my witness accounts, she still denies that ever happened. Fine. We also make resolutions not just for ourselves, but so we don't let other people down. We want to show friends/colleagues/ family members/ or whomever that you are strong enough and you can stick to your word. Because damned if people don't love reminding you of things you said or promised to do months or even years before. "Thought you said you would never eat at Taco Bell again? huh?" Let the guilt set in.
Life is ever changing, and you never know what tomorrow brings. There is nothing wrong with setting goals for yourself which will make you a better person. But you must understand, if you're going to make a change, no matter how small or large it may be, do it for YOURSELF. That's right. Be selfish, and take your time with it. Most great accomplishments are not an overnight process. Not everyone can quit or start cold turkey, some people can, but some people can't. That doesn't mean that you've failed, you just need another approach, that's all.
And why does the "resolution" have to start on New Years anyways? Why can't it be a month resolution, or shit even a week resolution? Start small, and be realistic. Hey if you fail today, there's always tomorrow. Don't let time constrain you. And if you're one of those lucky people who actually do stick to their New Year's Resolutions, well then a standing ovation for you :) That's awesome.
But that's just me, and my point of view. What works for you, may not work for the next person. If you feel the New Year is the time to get things started then by all means go get 'em. I just prefer to pick my own time and place. A New Year is a good way to look at the goals you want to accomplish, how ever small or large they may be, but so is today or tomorrow. Word

Breakups = New Hairstyles

Sooo... what does a girl do when her relationship has ended and she's extremely brokenhearted? Get a new hairstyle of course, WINNING!
Now, some back round information. I have had every hairstyle through my 29 years known to man (except for a rat tail, which I one day hope to achieve), from blue hair, pink hair, red hair, self pixie hair cuts, bleached, bangs.. etc. everything courtesy of me and many many shitty hair stylists who promised me they were the best. So yes, I have trust issues with the hair stylists you could say :( Fortunately I found some stylists who backed up what they said. Even when I moved back home, and go on my bi-yearly visits to Miami, I would still come in to my trusty salon. And 4 hours later "VAVOOM!!" That's when I started believing in miracles. Unfortunately they have both left my trusty salon, and moved far far away. Due to the holiday season my budget is very limited, and I am not going to Super Cuts again and risk getting albino highlights with shit brown dyed hair (I'm a natural blond) think J-Woww Jersey Shore Season 1. So I decided to take matters in my own hands. That's right.. usually not a good idea when I say that. I was going to give myself a slight hair makeover. Nothing overboard, but I figured, ehhhh it's just hair and it will grow back and everything will be groovy again. The same way I feel about my broken heart. I needed a change. Normally I would get a tattoo, but I decided to go for something a little less permanent this time around. Still I won't rule the tattoo out.

My hair influences, singer Duffy and Jenny Lewis. It was a big risk for me, since last time I tried to cut own bangs due to being sooo completely inspired by Duffy I ended up with a mullet/bowl cut look. But since I am one who doesn't learn from their mistakes, nor remember half the time I thought I'd give it a go again. I can honestly say I didn't do too bad of a job. I will post pics soon of my OWN hair as soon as I make it somewhat presentable. Its just the dye job that made my hair orange which was not the color I was going for at all... Oh well :/

Where have all the Rock Stars Gone?

I never understood why some women would throw themselves at men who had long shaggy hair, tight jeans and were musicians. They didn't even have to be that good looking at all. It wasn't until I was 16 at a 311 concert, and watching sexy lead singer Nick Hexum strum the electric guitar with his tight, strong arms, while closing his eyes and pouring everything into that microphone, sharing his world, his thoughts, his deeply penned lyrics for all of us to hear. How magical it was, the power, the energy, the music and as corny as it sounds I wanted to fuck him right then and there...(what is statutory rape anyway?) I finally understood what the term "groupie" meant. I felt as though he was talking to me specifically, the lyrics he was singing were about me. My own private concert.

What is about these men with guitars that drive me or most women in general crazy? Is it their good looks, or the amazing music they make? I think its a combination of both, with music being the forefront. Where have they gone? Why are there no more Jimmie's or Kurt's, or Keith's around? Why does the music nowadays not feel as organic and raw as before? Maybe I'm just listening to the wrong things... well at least I'll have always have the memories.

Sometimes when I get a little case of the "fuck my life and everybody else around me" I do something that cheers me up, and no its not crystal meth, or getting shitfaced by myself - though that scenario isn't completely ruled out. Instead I watch the greatest movie ever made. What is it you ask? It's 1995's dark comedy genius film "Welcome to the Dollhouse. I painfully cringe, empathize, and yet hysterically watch the main adolescent heroine, Dawn "Weinerdog" Weiner, awkwardly go through the trials and tribulations of Jr. high. Suddenly I don't feel so bad anymore. I find myself shrugging and thinking shit...and I thought Jr. High was rough for me...

Insight on Love & Life From Carrie Bradshaw

I am a huge Sex and the City fan, I will admit that, despite protests from my mom "Those women are a bunch of sluts!" But how can you not relate to at least something from Samantha, Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda? Although my social and financial situations are extremely different (I could never afford a $700 pair of Manolo's, I prefer deals at Payless). Nor do I sip Cosmo's at exclusive after parties. (A PBR will do just fine at my local diving hole) Our romantic take on things isn't that far off...
Lately I've been struggling with the fact that I'm turning 30 soon, and I can't but help look back on the past decade and think, what went wrong? Or what went right? Is this where I'm suppose to be at 30? Did I do everything I could have done?
I never had a concrete plan on my what I would do in my life, or where I'll be in 10 years. I kind of just let life take me by the reigns and guide me. Not that I regret a lot of things, I've definitely had some interesting experiences to say the least. I am proud to say that I'm a beauty school drop out, produced fashion shows, trimmed medical marijuana in northern California, taught English as a second language in Panama, (I failed English my senior year of high school and had to go to summer school to graduate), got tattoos completely drunk, cut my leg terribly trying to jump a fence to get backstage at a Poison concert. I've been in love, and had my heartbroken many a times. And now I try and look forward and wonder if I really know myself? I've been so busy unraveled with the ebbs and flow of life I never really got to take a moment and just be. I'm not trying to get all sentimental and analytical about things.

Five months ago after a terrible breakup I caught my mom watching Sex and the City. She looked at me embarrassed, and then shrugged. "What I can't help myself." I think it helped her in some way cope with her current or lack there of romantic situation. It was the first time in awhile I had seen her smile, and I think made her realize she wasn't alone.
After a difficult past few weeks in my "romantic life" I lugged some things back to my mom's house and she ran up to me, reading a quote she scribbled on the back of an envelope.

A friend at work showed me these "well worn shoes" for sale on eBay. I had no idea that this was even a fetish, and a fetish that can be sold on eBay, (for a surprisingly good amount of money I might add.) Senior Picture Re-Do

I am so pissed that this photo application from imikimi was not around when I was getting ready to take those momentous senior pictures.(Well either was cell phones really).

Instead my mom hired some cheapo photographer who took some horrible photos of me next to some fountain with zits galore. Whatever...
Now its time to make up for it. I literally spent 2 hours last night pasting my face on sweet backgrounds such as howling wolves, unicorns running through water, dolphins, lions and jaguars. At one point my boyfriend had to tell me to stop sending him messages through the day with my face rising from the sea or next to flying eagles.

How far would you go for love?

Its been 2 years since I returned from my stint in Central America. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about that time, or the thing I experienced, good or bad.
I wonder if I had a mental lapse in judgement, completely insane, naive, in love, or looking for a new adventure. I think it was a little bit of all of those things. Whatever it was, I learned whatever lesson I was suppose to learn.
Sometimes it seemed like a bad nightmare, and I would awake to think I was dreaming, this couldn't be my life at the moment. What the fuck was I doing?
I went down to Panama for a boy I met at a bar on vacation to Panama. He was a skateboarder with model looks, and extremely charming. That's right, I went down there thinking that I had found the man of my dreams, and I would have so much fun, Going to the beach, reggae bands, islands, getting an apartment together, new friends, becoming fluent in Spanish, hey shit, maybe even get married!
What I thought was suppose to happen didn't.
Instead I found myself alone, broke, living in a youth hostel, then quickly moving in with 2 "ladies of the night" (I didn't know at the time) who also didn't tell me that they were on couchsurfing.org, which would explain the English chick with hairy armpits sleeping on a surfboard cover in the living room for 3 weeks. Or the guy from Argentina who made jewelry. I stood out as a neon sign as I looked nothing like the natives. Communication was even worse, suddenly I knew how people felt who didn't speak English that well and tried to order food, or ask for directions, or wonder why everyone is laughing but you.

Maybe I didn't do my research. No let me rephrase that. I didn't do my research at all, but I also was trusting and believed the sales pitch my former boyfriend told me. I didn't have a visa so working was pretty impossible, and for not much pay, but for some reason I always had enough money to buy beer (which was super cheap!)
Life sucked, yet I stayed thinking it would get better. People change, right? I would learn and fit in. Those earrings I found on his bedroom floor were his niece's I'm sure, right? Eventually the feral cats would stop having extremely loud sex outside my bedroom window so I could get some sleep. After a horrible trip on a sailboat to Colombia, which I lost at least 10lbs thanks to an extreme bought of the worst sea sickness ever. I still continued to stay. I spent my weekends laying on my creaky bed watching re-runs of Curb Your Enthusiasm, chain smoking, and waiting for him to call. I so wished that my Bill Murray would appear, or someone, someone to talk to. I would gladly be sea sick 1,000 times than to be alone just once.

Needless to say I made it back, it wasn't easy, but it was an experience. Its better to try and fail than to never try and spend your life wondering what would have happened.

Welcome to Pan-Am

I'm super excited about the new ABC TV-show Pan-Am, which follows a group of flight attendants or stewardesses back in the 60's. I fucking love Christina Ricci and Kelli Garner. Finally some actresses. I've always wanted to be a flight attendant for some reason, the uniform, the traveling, the hot pilots, serving scotch and gin & tonics to businessmen in first class... even though I would just barley fit the weight requirement of 135lbs, (so sexists). I don't know, nowadays flight attendants are just not the same as they were back then... no offense, but have you been on a Southwest flight recently? Its also going to be my next Halloween costume.

I have to be honest but I kind of wish HBO or Showtime would be airing Pan-Am instead of Disney owned ABC, as I think it would get a chance to be a little bit more grittier and real life instead of filtering out most things. Come on, you know some dirty shit had to be going on... lets not sugar coat it ABC.

Courtney Alexis Stodden, My New Hero

I know I haven't blogged for ages... laziness, work, alcoholism, moving,... I really don't have an excuse, call it writers block I guess.
I found a new hero and her name is Courtney Alexis Stodden aged 16, who made headlines earlier this year by marrying actor Doug Hutchinson who is 51. Not only that, she doesn't look like a 16 year old, plastic surgery rumors, sleazy outfits, and her sweet music video "Don't Put it On Me" of course caused controversy and made me immediately fall in love with her.
Sure, as pop culture junkie I was curious to see what this gem of elegance was all about and immediately she became my new hero. She calls herself "Old Hollywood Glam", I don't know what she considers old Hollywood glam... endorsing Wet n' Wild makeup back in the 80's maybe.
But really besides her voice, what really put the hammer on the nail was how she doesn't give a fuck, she looks in the mirror and says "Damn, I look good. " And she knows her husband is a creep who is going through a serious mid-life crisis by the way she looks absolutely repelled by her serial killer looking husband when he tries to kiss her, I love how she makes her eyebrows really dark and dresses like a hooker who had a gift certificate from DEB. Plus have you read her twitter??? Helloooo!!!! She could so totally write erotic novels! This girl is multi-talented, what can't she do. Nothing. So you go girl....

Are You a Freak or a Geek?

I loved that t.v. series "Freaks and Geeks" It was sooooo goooooood. I am a little upset that they cancled after only one season and yet shows like "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" were on for ages... (yes I did watch that show too. come on, admit it, I know I'm not the only one.

Am I a freak or a geek? I don't know.. I think I am a little bit of both. Lately I have been hearing a lot of people refer to themselves as "geeks, or nerds" and I look at them and think, really? I would have never ever thought of you as one. What is your definition of a geek? If anything you were the one in high school making fun of all the geeks. I think its now cool to refer to yourself as a geek or a freak or some sort of outcast. I remember spending my high school years trying to avoid at all costs being a freak or a geek, and trying so hard to fit in. Then eventually I just said "fuck it."
But alas they can never compare to my main man, and favorite geek of all time Harris on "Freaks and Geeks"

Don't Mess With The Furries - Or Artic Fox Fur

I was watching something the other day about the sub-culture of Furries, people who dress up in animal suits, or so I thought. Apparently being a furry is much more than you think it is, and this kid is going to passionatly tell you why. I found this video on youtube this morning and couldn't keep it all for myself... I had to share!!! This kid doesn't give a fuck and he's tired of people hating on furries. You go boy!

If I had to be a furry I would be a llama because they have nice fur and they spit on people, also because they're pretty fucking rad.

Fashions I Like and Yes I am Still Alive

I could see it I guess.. if you want to be fabulous no matter where you are and that includes swimming in the ocean then why not?

High Tide Heels gives you the option of flippers and heels! After you're done snorkeling off the yacht, no need to change into your heels for the late sunset cocktail. Boom done! Though I would not suggest walking in these, especially if you're intoxicated. I could see that being a huge issue, unless you're really good at waddling. Me personally, I'm waiting for high heeled moon boots to come out, then I would totally rock those.

I was a victim of pick pocketing on New Years Eve. It was my fault really, I shouldn't have been so drunk, or had a zipper on my purse instead of magnetic handles. I should have been more careful, but still it gives someone no right to take things like that. Anyways, they took my crappy cell phone and debit card. All I had left was lip liner, house keys and some gum.
Well, to make a long tedious story short, they had a good time. Apparently I paid for drinks and bottle service for a whole club!! Too bad I wasn't there to enjoy the festivities, or invited to that matter. They could have at least picked me up a snack wrap when they stopped at McDonald's at 4:53am in the morning.
And as far as my cell phone goes, really? Willow Smith's "whip my hair" as a ring back tone??? Come on guys.... theres waaayyy better music out there than that. And Soulja Boy too.

So times are tough, money isn't flowing like it use to, and things are just so goddamn expensive. Yesterday I paid for my Chalupa at Taco Bell in all pocket change. There are just so many things I want to do, but alas just don't have the Benjamin's. For instance, I really really want to visit my dear friend Spike in London. (Yes that's his real name) A ginger headed tattooed mother fucker with the sweetest soul you'll ever meet. But.... I also need a new car, and then theres the whole rent thing that goes on each month.
Well fuck it. I'm tired of struggling, and plus there is soooooo many greedy gold diggers already out there who play the "No, I really love him.." card. Oh it has nothing to do with the fact that you now have a new Bentley or just went on a 5,000 Neiman Marcus shopping spree with his American Express Black Card. Oh and paying off my student loans would be a huuuuuuggggeeeee help.

So I'm not going to be picky about this, really you just have to have lots of cash, credit, a summer cottage in Tuscany preferably, but Monte Carlo will also work. He has to be willing to buy me things, and stick up for me when his same age as me daughter questions my motives. Oh and he has to love to travel to exotic places... a private jet would be cool too, cause I'm tired of sitting coach on Southwest next to crying babies and people who don't shut the fuck up.

So me and my mom were watching Super Nanny last Friday night, (don't judge) because thats what all 28 year olds do on a Friday night. Anywho they had an episode where Super Nanny deals with a bad ass 14 year old teenager. As we watched it, I couldn't help but laugh... because of how much she reminded me of myself at that age. I mean really, it was scary how much we were alike. She was rude, abusive, had a mouth like a truck driver, angry, self absorbed, and didn't give a fuck. My mom couldn't help but shake her head and kept repeating "God, you were awful."
Jesus.. was I really that horrible? Looking back, I really wasn't that bad, I don't think so...

Sure I smoked cigarettes, and shoplifted bonne belle lip gloss from the drugstore, and come to think pretty much any store I could in the mall. I got kicked out of class a lot, had detention. I got piercings and tattoos. My clothing store of choice was Salvation Army, where I would buy baggy mens pants, and my dad's closet, and wear my blue airwalks. I also cut my hair, bleached it and put manic panic blue streaks in. I remember I loooovvveddd chat rooms. Oh and I loved any guy that had greasy long hair and wore flannel. I thought I was pretty bad ass back then... jesus...

Cosmo Magazine Makes Me Feel Like Shit

So I use to read Cosmopolitan Magazine on a monthly basis back in the day. Ok 5 years ago, but anyways I really haven't had a chance to pick up the magazine lately, until I went to a friends house. They were watching a baseball game, which I think is like watching paint dry, so since I don't own a blackberry or an IPhone, I picked up the latest issue of Cosmo on the coffee table. Lauren Conrad was on the cover which is something I should have been warned about, but anyways like I said, I really hate baseball. So I flipped through stopping at articles about style and manners and how to be the "it girl at the party". There were obviously 60 pages about sex and What Your Vagina Is Really Saying, an article about what NOT to wear at work, What Your Man is Really Thinking, What Men to Avoid and Lauren Conrad giving advice about how to be perfect.
After an hour and a half I read most the articles, (did I mention I really really hate baseball?) I put the magazine down and sat back in the couch and immediately felt like shit.
I leaned back, closed my eyes and felt like I should be featured in the WHAT NOT TO DO pages. Shit... I have done pretty most everything what Cosmo says I should not do. What does that make me? Yes, I have drank high carb beer in the middle of the afternoon by myself, and yes I've gone a little too far on a first date. I don't get enough sleep and I don't eat enough protein and vegetables. I do show my cleavage at work sometimes (not like I have a lot), and I don't always wear sunscreen on my face. My shade of blush is totally the wrong color, I don't have nearly enough in my 401K, And I certainly don't ask what he wants enough. I started thinking, is this why I'm single? Is this why I'm broke? Could reading Cosmo really change my life?

Then I started asking myself questions, am I happy? Yes, Have I done what I always wanted to do? Yes. Do I have people around me that accept me for me.. Hell fucking yes. So I came to the conclusion that I do not want to be perfect nor try to be something I am not. Fuck it. Fuck you Cosmo... but thanks for the advice though. And I will remember that painting your nails green is trashy not classy, and I will still paint my nails green though, but thanks for the advice.

Save the Dive Bars

I've been to a lot of "dive bars" only to find once I get in, its a bunch of "hipsters" and college students being ironic and drinking PBR. I'm disappointed more than anything, not that they don't have the right to be there more than anyone else, its that its just missing something.... I went to one in Jersey City, frequented by all the Brooklyn Williamsburg crowd. "This is a cool dive bar, you'll see." said my tour guide Dave. Inside I was met with the typical "dive bar" ambiance. Jute box, writing on the walls, dirt, bathrooms that are disgusting, and the leather jacket punk, tattooed girls and skateboard crowd. The bartenders were young and hot. I thought to myself, what does a dive bar mean anymore...?
I've lived in Miami on and off for 10 years, and boy its changed since I first came as an naive 18 year old girl from a small town (I know this would make a great novel or TV movie), but I won't get into that. Media has you believe that Miami is full of dazzle, fake boobs, rich old men with young women, velvet ropes, and the hottest of the hottest. While that is true especially on South Beach, its not all that Miami is.

Over the bridge is where I learned most about Miami, and where I learned most about Miami is in the dive bars. Yes, I'm talking about one in particular called Happy's Stork Lounge. I was first introduced by my 40 something ex-roadie neighbor named Mark, complete with a mullet and unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt. Its actually a two in one combo a liquor store and bar. In order to get to the liquor store you must pass through the bar. Its located on the 79th street causeway in a small strip mall. You would never just stop there unless someone told you about it. Its full of locals, and by locals I mean "end of the roaders" older men with sunburned weathered faces, brown teeth and a "Been there done that" attitude. They got nothing left to lose. Young and old, alcoholics who get belligerently drunk, and a bar staff that isn't afraid to tell you to "Fuck off." and get just as shitfaced as the rest of them. The women look like the year was still 1986, and have more confidence than a 20 year old model sitting in VIP at Opium Lounge.

What struck me most about it was that no one seriously gave a fuck, and they weren't afraid to tell you whats really going on these days. You could play strip poker on the video machines.
The drinks were cheap and strong and you could see all types of people there, a black man with dreads dressed in full cowboy gear, including a cowboy hat. Vietnam vets, men who have been at sea for years, or just young locals in their pajamas in the middle of the day just wanting a cheap beer and conversation. The bar fights were the best. Cops weren't called because, well they deal with shit on their own terms. I watched as my ex neighbor Scott, a limp legged pill popper, alcoholic, broke a pool stick over someones head. The small Irish owner told him to get the fuck out and never come back.
All in all, I truly miss Happy's. And what happens at Happy's, stays at Happy's, most likely because no one will remember the next day anyways. I have to admit I enjoyed hanging out, because no one gave a fuck. It was a breath of fresh air among the South Beach clubs where image and who you know is everything. No fake kisses or fake hugs, or cover charges. It is what it is, no apologies necessary.

Yes I have been away from my blog for a few. Busy with working crazy hours, and recovering from my crazy summer which could rival Amy Winehouse's. Plus honestly I have been just plain lazy. Or call it bloggers block whatever may have you. Well I feel energized and well rested. So I just wanted to say sorry for dissappearing, I'm sure you missed me so much, hahaha, just kidding.

I really don't have a specific topic for this post... so I just feel like rambling on...I was going to post something cool but fuck it, my mind really isn't working today, I guess that's what happens when you drink wine out of a plastic bag.

I'm super pissed that I will NOT be attending New York Fashion Week with my sister as she's going back on tour and won't be around.. (for some reason I can only attend with her).. I'm also super pissed because the last weeks of summer are approaching and I don't want it to end... that means no more swimming pool, lakes, tubing down the river, walking barefoot, and not scraping ice off my car at 6am in the mornings.
I will also miss summer clothing!!!! I love NOT wearing jackets, sweaters, boots. I'll miss the freedom of bare legs, and the freedom of summer... butttttt... I am going to Miami at the end of September and look forward to basking in the hot South Florida sun, fishing, and seeing old friends, plus doing some major thrifting there..

Oh yeah last nights episode of the Jersey Shore, (I watch it, and I don't know why, its kind of like crack or heroin, you know you shouldn't be doing it, its sooooo bad for you, but you just can't stop yourself...you keep going back) and I noticed a girl I use know back from my hometown (she was younger) involved in a 3 way make out session with the Situation and Pauly D., then she went back to Pauly D.'s bed. I tried to get details from her, you know the good stuff :) but to no avail.

Ok, I know this story is all over the news and everyone knows about the Jet Blue Flight Attendant, Steven Slater who told an asshole customer to "fuck off", grab two beers, and then exit the plane using the emergency inflatable slide (at least you know it works) then go home and have sex with his boyfriend. And I think its hilarious and totally awesome that people are standing up and applauding this guy. As someone who has worked every job imaginable (except the in the sex industry, but by the way things are going right now I'm not ruling that out yet...) I know exactly how he feels, especially in the customer service industry. We've all imagined just telling a customer to go fuck him/herself, throw your name tag on the floor, and give the finger as you walk out the door screaming "Fuck all y'all"
I have been called every name in the book, sworn at, yelled at, mocked, and just treated like shit at jobs. I've also seen first hand the terrible treatment to employees just by waiting in line... or sitting at a table at a restaurant, and especially on airplanes. I don't know where people get off thinking they can go and treat human beings with such abuse. If you're angry about something, there's no need to make personal attacks to someone, because in 95.5% of situations, its not the employees' who your screaming at fault.
Maybe Steven had a bad day, maybe after years of abuse he just snapped. But I applaud this guy for having the guts to do that.... and maybe customers will start by being a little bit nicer to people who work in customer service positions... its tough

Friday the 13th is Good Luck

So its Friday the 13th... and I thought I should post something I have been unbelievably lazy this week.
I'm not a horror movie fan, but I do love a good cheesy horror movie to laugh at. Here are some of my top picks..... you're welcome to add in as I am sure there is many many more out there...

"Redneck Zombies" - pretty self explanatory... some rednecks find a barrel full of some toxic shit, they think its moonshine and drink it. Instead of getting drunk they turn into people eating zombies.

"Plan 9 from Outer Space" - From the famous director Ed Wood. This movie has to be one of the WORST movies of all time.. just from the bad lighting, editing, and just everything its comical.

"Gingerdread Man" - a gingerbread man is made from old ashes of a killer and kills people!....even better it stars Gary Busey! I couldn't even finish this movie to be honest, so bad, yet so good

"Frankenhooker" - I think the title just speaks for itself.. I never actually saw this movie, but it was a recommendation by a friend of mine. Basically a mad scientist decides to construct a new woman by using parts of chopped up prostitutes. I can't believe I haven't seen it yet..

"Silent Rage" - This isn't necessarily a horror flick, but it does have Chuck Norris in it and that makes it fucking awesome. Chuck plays a small time sheriff (I know, weird right?) who goes after a mentally insane killer, who has been re-invented by medical doctors into an even more insane mutant crazy killer.. terrible terrible movie, but seeing Chuck Norris doing roundhouse kicks is just awesome..

I haven't had a haircut in about 7 months. I've always had a dream for having long, luscious hair for one reason only, so I can wear my hair in a side bride that I've seen on the red carpet and the runways. I've tried for about a week now to master the famous side braid look, and it looks good for about an hour... then, half of it falls out. So instead of constantly fixing it or using a whole can of aqua net hairspray.. I just rock it. Shit, I'm starting a new style..

If I had to classify myself as to what kind of drunk I am, I would have to say I'm a happy drunk. I am social, talkative, funny, friendly... (from what other people tell me), and I have a tendency to become very talkative... too talkative, diarrhea of the mouth you could say. I'll talk to anyone... not that its always a bad thing as I've met some really cool interesting people, but then again I've also met some really weird, obnoxious, people. I also like to make plans apparently. For example, the other day I received a voicemail message from a 40 something year old biker that I met at some bar, calling to see if we were still on for the Sturgis bike rally. That was not the first time (I have a thing for bikers) I also made plans to go to Las Vegas with a short, bald, Greek man with a heavy New York accent in October, all expenses paid...

The other night I got a major case of the shits of the mouth.. I felt bad as my friends really wanted to leave, but once again I found myself engaged in a conversation with a New York City Cop who works with the Gang Unit Division. I do watch a lot of Gangland on the History Channel, and always had a strange fascination with gangs.. don't ask, I really dont' know myself.. but we spent a good hour talking about crips gang signs and Latin kings tattoos. Oh well....

I cannot stop listening to Phantogram's new album "Eyelid Movies" I can't. I've tried but my ipod keeps shuffling back to Phantogram. I am in love with Sarah Barthel's haunting vocals over Josh Carter's pop rock synth beats. I love it. The duo have already played music festivals such as SXSW, and Austin City Limits, Sasquatch Festival, as well as touring nationwide with bands like School of Seven Bells, Zero 7, and The Noisettes. Next month they'll be featured in Spin Magazine. But, besides all that, as a sibling, I couldn't be prouder of my little sis and all of her success in the past year or so. Its such a weird feeling when you're shopping in Forever 21 and your sisters song comes through the speakers. Yes, you could say I am a phan :)

A Road Trip With No Destination....

Have you ever just wanted to just drive? Just drive with no destination in mind.... stop where you want to, find creeks and and lakes to swim in naked, stop at electic coffee shops and people watch, get lost. But just drive. I want to drive into the desert, just me and guitar. I would stop at Salvation Mountain, and spend hours there just looking at all the intricate pieces of work...I want to drive out west with the wind blowing in my hair, seeing the sunset from different locations each night. There is something so freeing about the unknown, and unexpected... sometimes I just want to escape.

Yes, I am a huge 90's fan....and you CANNOT be a 90's fan without liking the 1994 flick Reality Bites. I never really understood that movie, as I was about 12 when it came out, unil now at the ripe old age of 28. I've always loved the movie, but I can so relate. Falling for the wrong men, trying to scrounge up rent money, eating ramen noodles. I spent so many years of my 20's being a drunk slacker gypsy. Never staying in one place long enough,and always broke. I guess it never really bothered me until I turned 28 this year and finally like a splash of freezing cold water on my face, "Oh shit, I'm almost 30!" Facebook is also a really bad idea, as its good to connect with old classmates and see what they're up to, it also makes me feel like I have accomplished nothing... No houses, hubby's, babys, degrees, cars. But then I think maybe I was never meant to live that life. I've always been a free spirit... and have done some amazing things...that doesn't mean my life sucks. I think my life is interesting....

This morning I came to the realization that my name isn't metal enough. Its not that cool. And I just don't like it. When I was 12 I changed my name to Veronica for 2 months. I made everyone write my name in birthday cards Dear Veronica, and I would only answer to Veronica. Veronica was soooo sexy and unique and mysterious, while my real name Becky just isn't so. . Actually my real name is Rebecca but my parents thought it would be cute to call me Becky...I was named after Becky from the Tom Sawyer novel. Rebecca is ok.... don't mean to offend anyone named Rebecca. But I want something cooler, edgier, sexier.... anyone have any ideas?

We humans have come up with some pretty cool things this past decade, the Ipod, 3D flat screen TV, and now Pajama Jeans and Jeggings! Thats right.... pants that are not made of denim but look like they are!!! Lets be honest, sometimes demin material isn't all that comfertable and hard to dance with.., but no thats no problem anymore.

Many celebrities seemed to have embraced "jeggings" leggings that look like jeans.

Look, while I love fashion and love to get dressed to the nines, somedays I'm hungover, tired, just like being comfertable and prefer to wear some nice comfy cotton sweatpants, or my pajama bottoms. but feel like a total lazy slob going to the store in them. Alas I almost had the big O when I saw "Pajama Jeans" the jeans that are actually pajamas!

I've often wondered what makes someone sexy. I've seen many women who are physically beautiful, but I wouldn't say that they are sexy. I think sexy is something completely different than being attractive or good looking. I think sexy is someone who embraces themselves, their flaws, and their weaknesses. Sexy is someone who doesn't care what society or Cosmopolitan Magazine says is beautiful. Someone who has self-acceptance, self confidence, and knows who they are. Sexy is someone who carries themselves as if they truly are the most beautiful person in the room, when to some people they may not be. Sexiness is someone who doesn't want to look like other people, they just want to look like the best version of themselves.
To me I find Mad Men's Christina Hendricks one of the sexiest women on the planet.

I'm love love loving the duo of lifelong long friends Sarah and Josh that make up the group Phantogram. With a mixture of electronic and hip hop beats and airy haunting vocals, no wonder they are one of the top bands to watch at Austin, TX's SXSW festival. Their new LP Eyelid Movies just dropped and they just came off a nationwide tour opening for Zero 7, you could say they've had a pretty kick ass year. Check out their song Phantogram- When I'm Small. I promise you'll love it... (hopefully)

Ok, so this Sunday is the Academy Awards, and I would be lieing if I said I watched the whole 3 + hour ceremony (the good films and actors never win in my opinion)... So I have been MIA for the past month or so... sorry guys, I guess its the winter weather that makes me hibernate and I'm settling happily back into the United States. Had a chance to travel around the northeast a bit, well Jersey City, NJ in particular. Found this awesome desolate spot that is right near/underneath the New Jersey turnpike that could have been a scene right out of an episode of The Sopranos, but, thanks to an abandoned concrete slab, it was actually a secret skateboard spot. And you could see the statue of liberty as well!

In the 1996 Todd Solandz cult movie masterpiece "Welcome to the Dollhouse", which I might add also happens to be one of my all time favorite movies. We were introduced a unique heroine named Dawn Weiner, who took us awkwardly through the perils of being a dorky self-conscious, 7th grade loner in suburban New Jersey. Who couldn’t relate to the misery of jr. high, such as being in love with an older man who doesn’t even know you exist. But watching Dawn go through it suddenly made your own experiences not so bad. Whether you loved her or loathed her, you had to admit she had some major balls, and I’m not only talking about her showing up for her own rape, but also her unique, risk taking fashion style. How many other people could pull off those coke bottle glasses paired with belly baring ruffled Mexican blouses, or hand knit sweaters with colorful flowers and hearts attached? Think about it. Now I find myself channeling Weinerdog as I sift through clothing store racks mumbling to myself what would Dawn wear? Here are some other finds that are so “Dawn-esque”

1.    Neon spandex tights
2.    Leg warmers
3.    Ruffled blouses and skirts
4.    Flowery print knit sweaters

Bodysuits are sexy...so i think

I use to wear bodysuits back in 5th grade. You know the kind that snapped at the crotch.... I loved the idea of not having to worry about tucking in your shirt. The best part of the bodysuit is having that clean, smooth, line free skin hugging bodice. Or just the instant sexiness I felt when wearing them. Now thankfully they're back, or did they ever go away? (Well K-Mart stopped selling them for a bit at least)

Bodysuits are great under skinny jeans, or do as Lady Gaga does and just wear them alone...

Helmet Couture

I'll admit it, though helmets are very necessary and do serve an important purpose, they aren't exactly add "chic" to your waredrobe. Karl Langerfeld took note and made a fabulous pearl encrusted scooter helmet complete with ipod setup. But, you can't find these at your local store, there are only 12 available and will cost you $1,805 to $6,837. But a great idea for all you crafty ladies, find a regular helmet and spice it up with gems and rhinestone from your local craft store, way less expensive, unless you have the funds of course for this one....

Though I admire Rihanna's daring and creative attitude toward fashion, I would definitly not want to accidently bump into her while she is wearing this spike dress. Regardless, I think Rihanna definitly rocked it. I often think her and Lady Gaga are in some sort of a competition when it comes to strange and over the top fashion. What do you think?

I have to admit that I have always had some sort of a fascination with groupies. I don't know what it is, their love of the music, their passion for the men who make the sweet music, the whole carefree ambiance and sexual power you feel from hearing a mean guitar rip. Most of all its the fashion. Feathers, fur, boas, tight fitting t-shirts, lack of bras, flowy dresses, most of all its their confidence and sexuality that oozes from their pores. From the famous Pamela des Barres, Sable Starr, Marianne Faithful, Bebe Buell to women who make their own music and appreciate all things music, Carly Simon, Blondie, Stevie Nicks. After seeing 311 in concert I understand why women become groupies.

Selena Gomez wowed, with one of my favorite fashions of the night with flawless makeup, and a simple black dress with large shoulder poofs.
